Classes
A teacher, their students and everything between: joining, the class page, tests, live lessons and the certificate.
A class is led by a teacher. It is different from a course, which you can take alone, and from a study group, which friends start without a teacher. For a longer walk through a demo class, read the students' guide and the teachers' guide on the blog.

- When the teacher lets you in
Some classes are also shown on Mock Tests, with how many students they have and how many tests they have held. You need an account. Joining is free.
Your class page
Open the class from your dashboard. At the top, Next up names the one thing to do now, with a yellow button: a live class going on, a class test that is open, overdue work, a test within the week, the work due soonest, or the next lesson of a class course. When nothing is waiting, it says you are all caught up. Under it, a row of links jumps to each part of the page.
- My work: the work set for you, by urgency. Overdue first, then what is still to do (a test that is open, then the nearest due date), tests you missed, and the finished work folded under Done. Each item shows its due date and your teacher's note.
- Courses: the courses set for the class, each with the lessons you have done and a Continue link to the next one.
- Lectures: scheduled lessons, notes, videos, and recordings of live classes. One you missed is highlighted.
- Announcements from your teacher: a test date, a change of time, a reminder.
- My progress, beside them on a computer and further down on a phone: the share of your work done, anything overdue, your lessons done, and a link to your report card.
- Live class: a Join button appears while your teacher is live. A red notice tells you if it is being recorded.
- My assessments (when your teacher has written one), My rank on assigned tests, and your Certificate once your teacher marks the class completed.
Class tests
Until a class test starts, you see that it is coming and when, but not its questions. Depending on how your teacher set it, you wait with the instructions on screen until they start it, it starts by itself at a set time, or you can begin any time within a window.
The test itself works like every timed test. See the exam screen. Your teacher chooses when you see your result: at once, when the test ends, or when they release it.
In two classes that get the same test? Your first sitting counts. If you sit it again in the other class, it is practice: you see your score, but you get no place and no certificate there. See the same test in two classes.
What counts as done
Problem
- Done when
- You mark it understood
Quiz
- Done when
- You answer it right
Python lab
- Done when
- Shows Attempted once you run it
Test or question set
- Done when
- You submit it after it was assigned
- Note
- An older score does not count
Note, resource, blog post
- Done when
- Not tracked
- Note
- Reading cannot be checked
Work past its due date shows Overdue until it is done. You can still do it; it tells your teacher it was late.

Your teacher marks the class completed
Under Course completion on the class page. Only your teacher decides this.

A button appears on your class page. Your teacher issues it, or declines it and you can apply again.
Print your report card
Problems reviewed, concepts understood, test average and scores, course progress and your teacher's feedback.
Starting a classFor teachers
Teacher StudioMy Classes
Press Create Class
Give it a name, subject, level and a short description. The subject helps students find it; it does not limit what you assign.
Decide who can find it
Turn on join requests to let students ask to join from the Classes directory. Turn on Show on the Mock Tests page to list it there too.
Add collaborators, if you teach together
Another teacher can help run the class with you.
Bringing students inFor teachers
- Join code. Share the code at the top of your class page. Students type it on their dashboard and are in at once.
- Invite with a QR code. Beside the join code: a code that opens the class's page (the join code is not in it), a picture to download and a poster to print.
- Join requests. Students who ask to join wait under Pending join requests. Let each one in, or decline.
BatchesFor teachers
Split a class into batches, for example a morning and an evening group, or each year's intake. Live sessions, assignments, courses and announcements can go to the whole class or to one batch. Each batch has its own tab. Close a batch or start a new one at any time.
Assigning workFor teachers
From a problem, quiz, lab, note, test or course, press Assign and pick the class or batch. Add a due date and an instruction note (you can edit the note from the class page later). The same item can be assigned once to the same class or batch; the picker marks the ones that already have it.
Tests have more choices, such as how they start. See Holding a test for your class.
You can assign another teacher's course if it is published, public and free. The class is enrolled and the author is told.
Live sessions and recordingsFor teachers
Start a live session
From the class or batch tab. Students see a Join button. The site notes when each one joins and leaves.
Record it, if you want
Videos are not stored on the site. On a laptop, use Record this class on this computer under the video; on a phone or tablet, the device's screen recorder. A red notice tells students the session is recorded.
Add the recording
Put the video on YouTube (Unlisted) or Google Drive and press Add the recording when the session ends, or later from Session History. Students who missed the session are told.
More in How to record your class.
Tracking progressFor teachers
Your class page in the Studio opens with Class at a glance: how much of the work set is done across the class, how many students were active this week, how many are behind, and the test average. Under it, Needs your attention lists what wants you now (a live class going on, students asking to join, who has overdue work, who has not been active for a week), and buttons jump to Assign work, Announce, Start a live class, Add a lecture and the students. The sections below follow the same order: join requests, assigning and checking work, the students, then live classes, announcements, lectures and courses.
The students table shows each student's problems solved, assignments done and overdue, test average and last active day, so you can see who is behind (on a phone, one card per student, with a Sort by menu). Open a student for their own page: assessments, report card and certificate. See it as a student does opens the page your students see.
Course completion and certificatesFor teachers
When students have finished, mark their course complete under Course completion on the class page: tick the students and confirm. They can then apply for the class certificate. This is kept apart from the roster and the test results, so it is never changed by accident.
Good to know
Test certificates are separate, one per test. See Certificates in the class tests guide.
