A compound always has the same composition by mass. The mass percent of an element is its share of the molar mass. From the percentages we find the empirical formula, the simplest whole-number ratio of the atoms. The molar mass then gives the molecular formula.
A balanced equation gives the ratio of the reacting amounts in moles. From it we work out masses and gas volumes: mass to moles, moles by the mole ratio, then moles to mass. The reactant that runs out first is the limiting reagent, and it decides how much product forms.
A solution has a solute dissolved in a solvent. Its strength can be given as a mass percent, a mole fraction, a molarity (moles per litre of solution) or a molality (moles per kilogram of solvent). Molality does not change with temperature, because it uses masses only.
