Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
These are approximate readings of the normal curve.
The oxygen dissociation curve is S-shaped. At mm Hg haemoglobin is about per cent saturated, and at mm Hg about per cent. A higher pCO, more hydrogen ions or a higher temperature shift it to the right, and oxygen is released more easily.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Given. The table.
Plan. Subtract the two saturations for each pair.
Step 1. (a) points.
Step 2. (b) points.
Step 3. (c) The curve is steep at low pO and almost flat at high pO. It is S-shaped.
Answer: points, points. The curve is steep and then flat.
Check. The range in (b) is longer, but the rise is much smaller. That is what a flat part means.
