Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
A man has worked in a stone-breaking industry for twenty years.
Asthma is the inflammation of the bronchi and bronchioles, with wheezing. Emphysema is the damage of the alveolar walls, a smaller respiratory surface, and smoking is a major cause. Dust in grinding and stone-breaking industries causes inflammation and fibrosis.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. (a) The hairs and the mucus of the nasal chamber, and the lining of the airway, trap dust.
Step 2. (b) In grinding and stone-breaking so much dust is made that the defence mechanism of the body cannot cope.
Step 3. (c) A large amount of dust in the lungs, then inflammation, then fibrosis, then serious lung damage.
Step 4. (d) Protective masks.
Answer: (a) the hairs and the mucus; (b) there is too much dust; (c) dust, inflammation, fibrosis, damage; (d) protective masks.
Watch out. Fibrosis is a growth of fibrous tissue. It is not a loss of tissue.
