Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
Name the complex , and . Find the oxidation state of the metal in each. Remember that carbonyl, ammine and chlorido are the ligand names.
Names are built in this order: cation, then anion. Inside the complex: ligands in alphabetical order (prefixes ignored), then the metal, then the oxidation state in Roman numerals. An anionic complex ends in -ate (ferrate, cuprate, argentate, aurate). Anionic ligands end in -o. is ammine and is aqua.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. Nickel. All four carbonyl ligands are neutral, and the complex is neutral, so nickel is . The name is tetracarbonylnickel(0).
Step 2. Platinum. Two chloride ions give and ammonia is neutral, so platinum is . Alphabetical order puts ammine first: diamminedichloridoplatinum(II).
Step 3. Zinc. Four hydroxide ions give and the complex is , so zinc is . The complex is an anion: tetrahydroxidozincate(II).
Answer: nickel , platinum , zinc , with the names above.
