Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
Meena can choose between a Jersey cow and a Red Sindhi cow. The Jersey gives milk for a long lactation but falls ill easily in the local heat. The Red Sindhi resists disease but gives milk for a short time. What should Meena do to get the best cattle, and why?
Animal husbandry is the scientific management of livestock. Milch animals give milk and draught animals do farm work; the cow is Bos indicus and the buffalo is Bos bubalis. The milk in one lactation is the milk of a day times the days. Exotic breeds give a long lactation; local breeds resist disease.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. The good points. The Jersey is an exotic breed with a long lactation. The Red Sindhi is a local breed with resistance to disease.
Step 2. The plan. She should cross the two breeds.
Step 3. The reason. The cross-bred calves can have a long lactation and also resist disease, so they give more milk and stay healthy.
Answer: cross the exotic and the local breed, to get cattle with both a long lactation and resistance to disease.
