Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
At rest, mL of blood passes the tissues in a minute. Each mL of the blood takes up mL of carbon dioxide and delivers it to the alveoli.
Carbon dioxide travels about per cent as bicarbonate, to per cent as carbamino-haemoglobin and about per cent dissolved. Carbonic anhydrase of the red blood cells makes go forward in the tissues and backward in the alveoli. Each mL of deoxygenated blood delivers about mL of carbon dioxide.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Given. Flow: mL a minute. Carbon dioxide: mL for each mL.
Plan. Count the lots of mL, multiply by mL, and scale to minutes.
Step 1. One minute. mL.
Step 2. Ten minutes. mL, which is L.
Answer: mL a minute and L in minutes.
Check. This is a little less than the mL of oxygen delivered in a minute at rest.
