Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
A student makes notes on a plant. Sort each note under vegetative or floral: (a) the root has branches that grow from one main root; (b) the flowers sit in a raceme; (c) the leaves are compound and opposite; (d) the fruit is a pod; (e) the stem is woody and climbs.
A plant is described in a fixed order: habit, root, stem, leaf (the vegetative characters), then inflorescence, flower, fruit and seed (the floral characters), and last the floral diagram and the floral formula. The flower is described whorl by whorl: calyx, corolla, androecium, gynoecium.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. Vegetative. (a) the root, (c) the leaves and (e) the stem.
Step 2. Floral. (b) the inflorescence and (d) the fruit.
Answer: vegetative: a, c and e. Floral: b and d.
