Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
A class makes a chart of how animals get oxygen.
Different animals use different organs: body surface, moist skin, tracheal tubes, gills or lungs. In humans the air passes through the nostrils, nasal chamber, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi and bronchioles (the conducting part) to the alveoli (the exchange part). The trachea divides at the fifth thoracic vertebra.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. (a) A sponge uses simple diffusion over its whole body surface.
Step 2. (b) A cockroach is an insect. Its network of tracheal tubes carries air to the tissues.
Step 3. (c) A prawn is an aquatic arthropod, and it breathes with gills.
Step 4. (d) A frog uses its lungs and its moist skin. Breathing through the skin is cutaneous respiration.
Answer: (a) diffusion over the body surface; (b) tracheal tubes; (c) gills; (d) lungs and moist skin.
