Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
Two very large flat sheets face each other. One carries on each square metre and the other carries on each square metre. Find the field of one sheet alone, the field between the sheets and the field outside them. Then find the force on an electron between the sheets. The charge of an electron is C in size.
Long wire: . Large sheet: . Outside a sphere of charge : . Inside a solid ball: . In a conductor inside, and just outside.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. One sheet. , that is kN/C.
Step 2. Between the sheets. Both fields point from the positive sheet to the negative sheet. They add: kN/C.
Step 3. Outside. The two fields point in opposite directions and have equal size. They cancel, and the field is kN/C.
Step 4. The electron. . The electron is pushed towards the positive sheet.
Answer: kN/C, kN/C, kN/C and N.
Check. The field between the sheets is . It fits.
Watch out. Do not use the field of one sheet outside the pair. Each sheet makes a field there, but the two cancel.
