Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
These five events of mitosis are not in order.
Mitosis runs in the order prophase, prometaphase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase. Each chromatid has its own kinetochore. At anaphase the centromeres split, and every chromatid is counted as a chromosome. The whole cell then holds twice the chromosome number of a G1 cell, but the same 4C of DNA.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. (a) The order is .
Step 2. (b) Event 3 is prophase. Event 5 is prometaphase. Event 1 is metaphase. Event 4 is anaphase. Event 2 is telophase.
Step 3. (c) Prometaphase. NCERT puts its events at the end of prophase and the start of metaphase.
Answer: 3, 5, 1, 4, 2; prophase, prometaphase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase; prometaphase.
