A 2000 kg satellite orbits 1100 km above the Earth…

Step 1. $r = 7.5 \times 10^{6}\ \text{m}$: $K = \dfrac{4.014 \times 10^{14}\ \text{m}^3/\text{s}^2 \times 2000\ \text{kg}}{1.5 \times 10^{7}\ \text{m}} = 5.35 \times 10^{10}\ \text{J}$.

Step 2. $U = -1.07 \times 10^{11}\ \text{J}$ and $E = -5.35 \times 10^{10}\ \text{J}$.

Step 3. To escape. It needs $E = 0$: $5.35 \times 10^{10}\ \text{J}$ more.
