Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
An irrigation tank in Gujarat is a cone with its point down. At the top it has radius , and it is deep. Water flows in at per minute. When the water is deep, find the volume of water, how fast the depth is rising, and how fast the area of the water surface is growing.
Link the changing quantities with an equation true at every moment, differentiate with respect to using the chain rule, and only then put in the numbers for the moment asked about. Use similar triangles to remove an extra variable.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. The link. The small cone of water is similar to the tank, so and . Then .
Step 2. The volume. At , .
Step 3. The depth. . So and .
Step 4. The surface. , so .
Answer: , and .
