Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
A cell carries cilia and one centrosome with two centrioles. How many microtubules are there in one axoneme, in the axonemes of all the cilia, and in the peripheral triplets of the two centrioles?
Ribosomes: RNA and protein, no membrane; 80S = 60S + 40S, 70S = 50S + 30S; S is the Svedberg unit. Cytoskeleton: microtubules, microfilaments, intermediate filaments. Axoneme: nine doublets and a central pair (9 + 2). Centriole: nine triplets round a hub, no central pair. Centrioles form basal bodies and spindle fibres.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. One axoneme. microtubules.
Step 2. All the cilia. microtubules.
Step 3. One centriole. microtubules.
Step 4. Two centrioles. microtubules.
Answer: in one axoneme, in all the cilia, in the two centrioles.
