Chapter 24
The d- and f-Block Elements
Transition Elements (d-Block), Lanthanoids and Actinoids (f-Block)

Iron, copper, gold and the rare earths in a phone screen all sit in the middle and the bottom of the periodic table. Their partly filled orbitals explain their colours, their many oxidation states and their use as catalysts. In this chapter you learn the trends of the d-block, the chemistry of potassium dichromate and potassium permanganate, and the lanthanoids and actinoids. Python tabulates electronic configurations and oxidation states.
