An apple falls from a tree. The Moon does not fall, but it goes round the Earth. Newton saw that one force explains both. Here we learn the law of gravitation, and we find out why the Earth gives every falling thing the same acceleration.

Every object pulls every other object. The pull grows with the masses and gets weaker, very quickly, when the distance grows.
Near the Earth, every falling object has the same acceleration, g. We find its value from the law of gravitation.
The planets go round the Sun on oval paths. They move fastest near the Sun, and a planet farther out takes much longer to go round. Newton used these rules to find the law of gravitation.
