Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
A supermarket keeps fruit in one aisle and soaps in another. Use this idea to give three reasons why biologists sort living things into groups.
Classification sorts living things by the basic plan of the body, asked in order: a true nucleus or not, one cell or many, a cell wall or not, how food is got, and how the body is built.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. Easier study. As the aisles help you find things fast, groups let us study one group and learn about all its members.
Step 2. Relations. Groups show which living things are related, and how closely.
Step 3. Names and history. Groups give every living thing a name used everywhere, and tell us about the history of life.
Answer: easier study, relations, and a common naming system (and the history of life).
