Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
Three dishes hold of water each. After hours, the water left is: a wide dish in the sun, ; a wide dish in the shade, ; a narrow glass in the sun, . Find the rate at which each loses water, in grams each hour.
Evaporation is the change of a liquid into a gas at its surface, at any temperature. It is faster with a larger surface, a higher temperature, a lower humidity and more wind. Boiling happens all through the liquid, at the boiling point, with bubbles.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. The water lost in hours. ; ; .
Step 2. The rates. ; ; .
Answer: , and .
What it tells us. The sun almost doubles the rate (the first two dishes). The wide surface makes it seven times as fast (the first and the third).
