Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
A heart muscle cell and a cell that stores starch in a potato are both looked at. One has many more mitochondria than the other. Which one, and why?
Mitochondria release energy from food. Cells that work hard have more of them.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. The heart cell. It contracts again and again, all day and all night, so it needs a great deal of energy.
Step 2. The potato cell. It only stores starch and does little work.
Answer: the heart muscle cell, because it needs much more energy, and mitochondria release energy.
