Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
Four metals P, Q, R and S are tested with solutions of their sulphates. P displaces Q from the sulphate of Q. Q displaces R from the sulphate of R. S does not displace P from the sulphate of P. R displaces S from the sulphate of S. Put the metals in order of reactivity, the most reactive first.
Metals form basic oxides; aluminium and zinc oxides are amphoteric. Reactivity with water: K, Na violent; Ca cold water; Mg hot water; Al, Zn, Fe steam; Pb, Cu, Ag, Au none. Metals above hydrogen give hydrogen with dilute acids. A metal displaces those below it from their salt solutions.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. P beats Q, and Q beats R: P, Q, R.
Step 2. R beats S, so S comes after R.
Step 3. S does not beat P, which agrees.
Answer: P, Q, R, S.
