Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
Make a table of the five kingdoms. For each one, give: a true nucleus or not, one cell or many, a cell wall or not, and how it gets food. Then name one example of each.
Whittaker's five kingdoms. Monera: no true nucleus, one cell. Protista: a nucleus, one cell. Fungi: a nucleus, a wall of chitin, feed on dead matter. Plantae: many cells, a wall of cellulose, make food. Animalia: many cells, no wall, get food from others.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. The table.
| Kingdom | Nucleus | Cells | Wall | Food | Example |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Monera | no | one | usually | both | Nostoc |
| Protista | yes | one | some | both | Paramecium |
| Fungi | yes | mostly many | chitin | dead matter | bread mould |
| Plantae | yes | many | cellulose | makes its own | neem |
| Animalia | yes | many | none | from others | crow |
Step 2. Check. Only Monera lacks a nucleus, and only Animalia lacks a wall.
