Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
Sort these into infectious and non-infectious: typhoid, high blood pressure, malaria, cancer, a common cold, a broken bone. Say which one is not really a disease.
Most diseases have an immediate cause, usually a microbe, and contributory causes such as poor nutrition, unclean surroundings, crowded homes, harmful habits and inherited traits. Infectious diseases are caused by microbes and can spread; non-infectious diseases such as cancer and high blood pressure have internal causes.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. Infectious. Typhoid, malaria and the common cold are caused by microbes that spread.
Step 2. Non-infectious. High blood pressure and cancer have internal causes and do not spread.
Step 3. The broken bone. It is an injury, so it is not really a disease. No microbe causes it, and it cannot spread.
Answer: infectious: typhoid, malaria, the cold. Non-infectious: high blood pressure, cancer, and the broken bone, which is an injury.
