Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
Say whether each feature belongs to photosystem I or to photosystem II. (a) Its reaction centre is P700. (b) It is joined to the splitting of water. (c) It is present in the stroma lamellae, which lack the other photosystem. (d) It works first in the non-cyclic path. (e) It alone works in cyclic photophosphorylation.
Photosystems: PS I and PS II, named in the order of discovery. Each has an antenna (the light harvesting complex, hundreds of pigment molecules bound to proteins) and one chlorophyll a reaction centre: P680 in PS II and P700 in PS I. Water is split at PS II in the lumen: . Grana have both photosystems. Stroma lamellae have PS I but no PS II and no NADP reductase. Photon energy in eV with in nm.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. (a) P700 is the reaction centre of PS I.
Step 2. (b) Water is split at PS II.
Step 3. (c) The stroma lamellae carry PS I and lack PS II.
Step 4. (d) In the non-cyclic path PS II works first.
Step 5. (e) Cyclic photophosphorylation uses PS I only.
Answer: (a) PS I; (b) PS II; (c) PS I; (d) PS II; (e) PS I.
