Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
Say how many chambers the heart has, and whether the circulation is single or double, for each animal.
Arthropods and molluscs have an open circulatory system, with sinuses. Annelids and chordates have a closed one. A fish heart has chambers and a single circulation. Amphibians and reptiles, except crocodiles, have chambers and mixed blood. Crocodiles, birds and mammals have chambers and a double circulation, so the blood passes the heart twice in each round.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. (a) A shark is a fish: 2 chambers, single circulation.
Step 2. (b) A frog is an amphibian: 3 chambers, double circulation but incomplete, with mixed blood.
Step 3. (c) A pigeon is a bird: 4 chambers, complete double circulation.
Step 4. (d) A crocodile has 4 chambers, even though it is a reptile.
Step 5. (e) A cockroach is an arthropod: an open system with sinuses.
Answer: (a) 2, single; (b) 3, incomplete double; (c) 4, double; (d) 4, double; (e) open.
