Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
Sana counts the cells in a thin section of a young stem. She finds parenchyma cells, collenchyma cells and sclerenchyma cells.
Parenchyma: living, thin cellulose wall, photosynthesis and storage (chlorenchyma, aerenchyma). Collenchyma: living, corners thickened with cellulose, hemicellulose and pectin, flexible support. Sclerenchyma: dead, thick lignified wall, fibres and sclereids, hard support.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. Total. cells.
Step 2. Dead cells. Only sclerenchyma is dead: cells.
Step 3. Per cent. .
