Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
Rain water and waste collect in an open drain beside a road. Every rainy season many families nearby fall ill. Explain why each family alone cannot solve the problem. Say what the community can do, and relate your answer to personal and community health.
Health is being well enough to function well physically, mentally and socially. It is more than having no disease. It depends on the person and on the community: clean water, clean surroundings, food, work, social equality and harmony.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. The problem is shared. The drain serves the whole street. One family cleaning in front of its own house cannot stop the dirty water from collecting.
Step 2. What the community can do. Everyone together can clear the drain, cover it, and arrange to collect the waste. It can also ask the local body for a proper drainage system.
Step 3. Personal and community health. Each family looks after its own health by washing hands and boiling water. But the cleanliness of the surroundings is community health.
Answer: the drain is a shared surrounding, so only the whole community can keep it clean. This is community health. Each family adds to it with its own good habits.
