Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
Put these in the order in which electrons from NADH pass through them.
Cytochrome c, oxygen, ubiquinone, cytochrome bc complex, NADH dehydrogenase, cytochrome c oxidase.
The electron transport system lies on the inner membrane. Electrons go from NADH to complex I, and from FADH to complex II, then through ubiquinone, complex III, cytochrome c and complex IV to oxygen, which becomes water. One NADH gives 3 ATP and one FADH gives 2 ATP. Each carrier makes one water.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. NADH gives its electrons to NADH dehydrogenase (complex I).
Step 2. They go to ubiquinone.
Step 3. Then to the cytochrome bc complex (complex III).
Step 4. Then to cytochrome c.
Step 5. Then to cytochrome c oxidase (complex IV).
Step 6. At the end they are taken by oxygen.
Answer: NADH dehydrogenase, ubiquinone, cytochrome bc complex, cytochrome c, cytochrome c oxidase, oxygen.
