Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
Describe the kind of sexual reproduction in each case.
Algae are simple, thalloid, autotrophic, mostly aquatic plants. Vegetative reproduction is by fragmentation, asexual by zoospores, and sexual by isogamy (equal gametes), anisogamy (unequal gametes, both motile) or oogamy (a large non-motile egg and a small motile male gamete). A population that doubles every hours grows by in hours.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. (a) The gametes are alike in size: isogamy, as in Spirogyra.
Step 2. (b) A large non-motile egg and a small motile male gamete: oogamy, as in Volvox and Fucus.
Step 3. (c) Unequal gametes that both swim: anisogamy, as in some species of Chlamydomonas.
Answer: (a) isogamous; (b) oogamous; (c) anisogamous.
