Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
Match each action to the part of the brain that controls it: (a) keeping your balance on a narrow wall, (b) working out a puzzle, (c) your mouth watering when food is cooked nearby, (d) feeling hungry before lunch.
The forebrain (cerebrum) thinks and controls voluntary actions, and has the hunger centre. The medulla controls blood pressure, salivation and vomiting; the cerebellum keeps balance and posture. The skull, a fluid and the vertebral column protect the brain and the spinal cord.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. Balance. (a) Cerebellum.
Step 2. Thinking. (b) Cerebrum, in the forebrain.
Step 3. Salivation. (c) Medulla, in the hindbrain.
Step 4. Hunger. (d) The hunger centre, in the forebrain.
Answer: (a) cerebellum; (b) cerebrum; (c) medulla; (d) forebrain (hunger centre).
