Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
Light above the threshold frequency falls on a metal, and electrons come out. Say what happens to (a) the number of electrons each second and (b) their greatest kinetic energy in two cases.
(ii) A filter removes half the photons, and the colour stays the same.
A photon carries , with ; in eV, . Photoelectric effect: , and . Brightness sets the number of electrons; frequency sets their energy.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. (i) Shorter wavelength. Each photon has twice the energy. The number of electrons stays the same, but rises by more than double.
Step 2. (ii) Filter. Half the photons free half the electrons. Each photon is unchanged, so stays the same.
Answer: (i) same number, higher energy; (ii) half the number, same energy.
