Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
Put these parts in the order in which a sound passes through them: the cochlea, the eardrum, the ear canal, the auditory nerve, the three small bones, the outer ear. Say what each one does.
Loudness depends on the amplitude, pitch on the frequency, and quality on the mixture of frequencies. People hear about to : below is infrasound, above is ultrasound.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. The outer ear collects the sound.
Step 2. The ear canal leads it in.
Step 3. The eardrum vibrates.
Step 4. The three small bones make the vibration stronger.
Step 5. The cochlea changes it into electrical signals.
Step 6. The auditory nerve carries them to the brain.
Answer: outer ear, ear canal, eardrum, three bones, cochlea, auditory nerve.
