Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
Estimate by throwing random points at a unit square, with 1000 points and with 100 000 points. Do the whole experiment 50 times for each, and find the spread of the estimates. By what factor is the spread smaller for 100 times more points?
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Plan. Write a function for one estimate. Repeat it 50 times for each size, and use the standard deviation of the estimates as the spread.
Check. The theory says that the spread is with , which is : 0.052 for and 0.0052 for . The simulation gives 0.0488 and 0.0049. The ratio is about 10, which is .
Answer: the spread falls from about 0.049 to about 0.005, a factor of about 10. A hundred times more points give ten times more accuracy.
