Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
Answer, and give a reason.
Heat to warm a body: . Water , ice , aluminium , iron , copper . Heat capacity of a body .
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. (a) Water's large specific heat lets it carry away a lot of heat for a small rise in temperature.
Step 2. (b) The pot has the larger heat capacity (); their specific heats are the same: both are iron.
Step 3. (c) A potato is mostly water, with a large heat capacity, and it conducts heat poorly, so its inside cools slowly.
Answer: (a) Large . (b) Pot; equal. (c) Water inside, poor conduction.
Watch out. Do not mix up heat capacity and specific heat.
