Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
What is an amphoteric oxide? Name two. Write the equations of zinc oxide with hydrochloric acid and with sodium hydroxide.
Metals form basic oxides; aluminium and zinc oxides are amphoteric. Reactivity with water: K, Na violent; Ca cold water; Mg hot water; Al, Zn, Fe steam; Pb, Cu, Ag, Au none. Metals above hydrogen give hydrogen with dilute acids. A metal displaces those below it from their salt solutions.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. An amphoteric oxide reacts with both acids and bases to give a salt and water. Examples: aluminium oxide and zinc oxide.
Step 2. With acid. .
Step 3. With base. .
