Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
Each hydrocarbon has no ring. Say whether it is an alkane, an alkene or an alkyne.
Alkenes have one C=C, , -ene. Alkynes have one C≡C, , -yne. A ring also takes away two hydrogens: cyclohexane is and saturated. Compare the hydrogens with to tell the type.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. (a) ; is four fewer: an alkyne, propyne.
Step 2. (b) ; is two fewer: an alkene, hexene.
Step 3. (c) ; nothing missing: an alkane, pentane.
Step 4. (d) ; is four fewer: an alkyne, heptyne.
Step 5. (e) ; is two fewer: an alkene, decene.
Answer: (a) alkyne; (b) alkene; (c) alkane; (d) alkyne; (e) alkene.
