Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
A nursery plants rose cuttings, and of them grow roots. How many new rose plants does it get? Give two reasons why the nursery uses cuttings instead of seeds.
In asexual reproduction one parent makes new individuals without gametes: fission (binary in Amoeba and Leishmania, multiple in Plasmodium), fragmentation (Spirogyra), regeneration (Planaria), budding (Hydra), spores (Rhizopus) and vegetative propagation in plants. In binary fission each round doubles the number of cells.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. Plants. plants.
Step 2. Reasons. The plants flower sooner than plants from seed, and every plant is like the parent, so a good variety stays true.
Answer: plants; cuttings give quicker flowering and copies of a good variety.
