Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
Exactly of a coloured solid is dissolved in of water. Then of it is mixed with of clear water in a new beaker. This is done again and again, each time from the newest beaker.
Matter is made of particles that are far too small to see. There are spaces between them, which is why sugar can dissolve in water with no rise in the level, and why a gas can be squeezed.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. One step. The new beaker gets of the solid, so each step makes the colour times weaker.
Step 2. (a) After steps: times weaker.
Step 3. (b) The masses are . After steps there is , still more than . After steps there is .
Answer: (a) times weaker. (b) steps.
What it tells us. Even can still tint the water a little, so a tiny mass holds a huge number of particles, and each particle is very small.
