A prawn has jointed legs, and its body is covered with a hard outer layer. To which group does it belong? Name two other animals of the same group, and say one thing that is special about this group.
Need a reminder? The key ideaShow
Porifera: pores, cells only. Coelenterata: one opening, tissues. Platyhelminthes: flat, organs. Nematoda: round. Annelida: segments. Arthropoda: jointed legs, the largest group. Mollusca: soft body, often a shell. Echinodermata: spiny skin, in the sea.
The worked solution
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. The group. Jointed legs and a hard outer covering make it an arthropod.
Step 2. Others. A butterfly and a scorpion (also: a cockroach, a spider, a crab).
Step 3. Special. Arthropoda is the largest group of animals.
Answer: Arthropoda; a butterfly and a scorpion; the largest group.
