Try it on paper first. A hint, the key idea and the worked solution are here when you need them.
A battery charges a capacitor through a resistor until the capacitor is full. Find the final charge, the energy stored, the work done by the battery and the heat produced. What would the heat be with a resistor? Find also the time constant for the resistor.
Have you tried it?
Work it out on paper first. It is fine to get stuck or make a mistake: that is how we learn. When you are ready, go through the solution one step at a time, and check each step against your own.
Step 1. The charge. .
Step 2. The energy stored. .
Step 3. The battery. .
Step 4. The heat. . The heat equals the stored energy.
Step 5. A different resistor. The heat is again. The resistance changes how fast the capacitor charges. It does not change how much heat is made.
Step 6. The time constant. .
Check. The program adds up in small steps and finds the same of heat.

When capacitors are joined, the charge is shared and the voltages become equal: . The energy lost is . If a change makes , then with the battery on , and with it off . A battery charging a capacitor does , and half of it is lost as heat.
