Fern, pine, sponge, earthworm, frog, bat. Each one belongs to a group, and the group tells us a lot about the body. In this course we go through the groups of plants and animals, and we learn the clues that tell them apart.

Plants are put into five groups. Thallophyta have no differentiated body, Bryophyta have no vascular tissue, Pteridophyta have vascular tissue and no seeds, Gymnosperms have naked seeds, and Angiosperms have seeds in fruits. Angiosperms are monocots or dicots.
Animals without a backbone are put in eight main groups: Porifera, Coelenterata, Platyhelminthes, Nematoda, Annelida, Arthropoda, Mollusca and Echinodermata. The groups are decided by the level of organisation, the symmetry, the body cavity and the segments.
Vertebrates have a backbone. They are put into five classes: Pisces, Amphibia, Reptilia, Aves and Mammalia. We tell them apart by the skin, the number of chambers in the heart, the way of breathing, the eggs and the body temperature.
