An inflorescence is the way flowers are arranged on the floral axis. In a racemose inflorescence the main axis keeps growing and the flowers open in acropetal order, with the oldest at the base. In a cymose one the axis ends in a flower and the flowers open in basipetal order.
A flower has four whorls: calyx, corolla, androecium and gynoecium. Flowers differ in symmetry, in the number of members and in the position of the ovary. Sepals and petals differ in union and aestivation, stamens in union and attachment, and ovules in placentation.
A fruit is a mature, ripened ovary, and a parthenocarpic fruit forms without fertilisation. The pericarp has an epicarp, mesocarp and endocarp, as in the drupes mango and coconut. A seed has a seed coat and an embryo, and dicot and monocot seeds differ in their cotyledons and endosperm.
